April 22nd, 2022

1:30 PM EST

White Plains High School, NY

Teachers Jessica and Karina organized a forum for 90 juniors who are part of the AVID program. Liam, a college student studying Human Resources, shared his educational path and journey, including various subjects he studied before finding his passion. Liam also shared his aspirations for his future career and what he wants to share with others as a future Human Resources professional.

This forum session led to an opportunity for an informational interview–one student was particularly interested speaking directly with one of our listed professionals, and we will be arranging an informational interview session during class for that student to present targeted questions.

We were very pleased with the outcome of working directly with the AVID program, and hope to continue networking with teachers who are involved in that program at their schools.

January 30th 2022

2:00 PM EST

Congregational Church of New Canaan, CT

Group Leader, Erik, organized a group of 40 7th and 8th grade students for this session. Our two speakers, a researcher from the Chemistry Department at Columbia University, and Kinga, the Director of Design for Jason Wu, participated via Zoom for these students.

Our chemistry researcher gave a fascinating talk about chemistry and how this field is so critical to our day-to-day lives and the future of human activities on our planet. Students were inspired to learn the implications chemistry has on our lives and to our world.

Kinga took the students on a creative journey that leads to how clothing is designed. Photos and details were shared to describe every step in the fashion design process, and the students asked great questions.

We were grateful for the chance to share career inspirations with this youth group at the Congregational Church of New Canaan, and we look forward to the chance to bring more professionals on board as speakers.

January 15th 2022

A very successful forum…

The event was organized and coordinated by Mohammed Rahman.

. Samantha talked to us about her job in the movie industry and shared candidly about her journey to get to it.
. Hassan shared his passion about running restaurants and being in connection with his customers and team.
. Aminat described to us path to the start of her PhD, the importance of mentoring and passion.

Thanks to the great questions asked by the middle school and high-school students.
Just a few of the take home messages from this forum:
- The route to a job and a passion is not a straight line. There are lots of ups and downs
- Having mentors and using any help possible along the way is critical
- Be involved and fully engaged

One point that we did not cover and that we will cover at our next forum on January 30th is PURPOSE.
